Descriptions of Honeycutt Haven accommodations:

Honeycutt Haven is a three bedroom, two bathroom modern home on a private beach, about 100 feet from the water on a 30 foot elevation berm.  The Master Bedroom and Bathroom are reserved for the owner’s use and are locked, as is the pantry and another closet near the front door.

There are two guest bedrooms, one facing the ocean with a sliding glass door onto the sun deck and the other facing the sea creek.  Each bedroom has its own closet with bi-fold doors, a dresser and nightstands on each side of the bed.  The guest bathroom has a full tub and shower combination and a single sink with storage space and drawers for your personal items.

There is an analog TV with a DVD player and an XM Satellite Radio for music that are connnected to a home entertain ment unit that acts as an amplifier (the DVD player in the entertainment unit doesn’t work, use the smaller one on top of the TV).  There are some games and DVDs and paperback books for reading.

There are plenty of electrical outlets, all US 110 VAC and 60 Hz.  Each room is wired to its circuit breaker, the panel for which is located in the kitchen behind a framed poster.  The outlets are 20 Amp rated, which means they look a little different, but accept standard US spade lug 15 Amp plugs, with or without a third wire ground.  All outlets that may have exposure to water are serviced with GFCI breakers.

The kitchen has an electric range and oven and a microwave oven, as well as all the dishes, utensils and food preparation essentials you should need for almost anything.  There’s even a bread-maker for adventurous. There is also a toaster, a blender and coffee maker.

There is front loading clothes washer and matching electric dryer in the kitchen near the pantry.   The dryer controls are upside down (welcome to the Bahamas), but the dryer works just fine, simply twist your head when reading them.  Front loading clothes washers require less detergent, so don’t overfill the detergent drawer on the top left of the washer’s face plate.  The spin cycle is very fast and can be loud at times, but it’s normal.

There is a dishwasher to the right of the kitchen sink.  The kitchen sink does NOT have a disposal as we use a septic tank and all food scraps should be placed in a plastic bag and kept in the freezer.  There is no regular trash pick-up service on Cat Island, so please try to minimize trash and if possible separate paper items that can be burned from other waste.  Also, if you can separate reusable glass bottles it is appreciated, and crush cans before placing them in the trash.

All the water for the house is rainwater collected from the roof stored in a 12,000 gallon cistern located under one-half of the patio deck. It is filtered and safe to drink, however a specially filtered drinking faucet is located on teh right hand side of the kitchen sink for your convenience.

AC Power is provided by diesel generators on the island and they are sometimes taken down for service during the daytime, so power outages can occur. There are flashlights in the house.

You must use a calling card to call back to the states, 800 calls to the US are NOT Free.

Bug time outside occurs daily from sunrise for about an hour and again just prior to sunset for a few hours,  It’s usually less buggy during the winter months at these times, unless it just rained, then it’s usually worse right afterwards.  Whenever you’re outside during these hours just spray some repellent on your exposed skin. The windows and sliders are fitted with No-seeums (sand flies) screens, so they are usually not a problem inside.  If you feel yourself getting itching whiel inside in the evening, we recommend closing the sliders and the lower portion of the windows, leaving them open at the top. It’s good to bring some topical anti-itch lotion or benadryl capsules for anyone that’s particularly sensitive to bug bites.
